what does the year of the snake symbolise?
what does the year of the snake en-tail? love slytherin soul.
dear slytherin soul
happy lunar new year. gong fei fat choi.
when i was kid, my mum would yabber on about the old calendar and the new calendar and that my brother was a monkey or a sheep according to different calendars and i was a rooster and she was snake, and so was my dad and sister. i never really processed what she was going on about, as she spoke in cantonese and the language had a way of slowly slithering into my brain, rather than directly shouted at it.
these days, the new year feels like it truly unfolds with the old calendar or lunar calendar and less the new calendar or gregorian. as we transition into the year of the snake this week and farewell the dragon, it felt timely to tune into my higher self to gain a higher perspective on the resonance and significance of snakes for part I and a new year mantra in part II.
this year i continue to publish every sunday with a week break at the end of the month. thank you for being here. support this channel by tapping the♡ / re-stack ↻ or a paid subscription :)
part I.
a new year. a new page. a new leaf turns and the beginnings of the new year always unfurls and uncurls at a minor pace and not in a race to save the world. the earth ‘slows’ down for a deep breath and gaia slowly exhales as summer (or winter) carries on through january, like one long exhale to the inhale and last breaths of the passed year.
the year of the snake will slither in for 2025 not quite with a bang by a gentle slide much like the snake symbol itself. it does not like to make a dramatic entry but rather a sly or shy back door entry, secret to prying eyes. so while you’re at the front door, awaiting his arrival, he will have already snaked into your casa and livelihood without your knowing, only to appear surreptitiously one day when the new year is in full swing and fully uncoiled.
the snake is not a dangerous sign or reptile, despite its slithering and sly reputation. the snake lays low but is capable of great rise and attention when need be, he/she/they rise to the occasion. the snake is a wonderful worker and industrious creature capable of many tasks and tenures at the same time, yet does not like to be disturbed or perturbed whilst in their flow state of being slowly or methodically working to get to the finish line or product.
snake makes tracks which are evident to their fellow animal king-dom that says ‘watch out — i am here and to be revered and adhered to — i am of worth and weightiness and here to make marks on the world’. inviting snake charm(ing) energy into your life can bring prosperity when done in a deliberate and delicate manner.
ask only for the highest good and lightness of snake, for its industriousness and endeavour to do the hard work and tracks, to lay low and humble on the earths surface and to do the groundwork.
snakes are not lofty creatures, they mostly are very grounded and stick to the earth’s surface and the reverberations of her hearth and the tremors of her skin. a snake embodied is to be in full resonance with the grounding of earth and fully in touch with the plains and the fields and the mountains and trees of earth. the snake is a mighty symbol and turn of page for the earth and seasons to enter.
invite snake in slowly, asking for her grounding and earthing qualities — as the more you ground, the more you can also ascend to loftier and lighter realms.
allow snake to be an anchor for your casita and the custodians within. a simple door snake can help ward off un-wanted and unwarranted pests and guests. allow snake to stand guard at home— quietly and surreptitiously and allow snake to rule the grounds of your casa and property grounds. they exist for the reason of protection and purging.
without snakes, we would not know venom and without venom we would not know vanity and without vanity, we would not know sanity and without sanity we would not know legality and legislation and law.
the snake keeps law— always, you must abide by their rule and be wary of their rules and regulations set in place by mother nature. a snake understands boundaries like no other creature on earth. stay within your boundaries and no harm is done or dusted, however if you cross the line, the punishment and penalties will be adjudicated and actioned. a snake knows boundaries like the back of its neck. it can see all, feel all and hear your heart beating many metres away.
keep your trust high in a relationship with a snake, as they never forget a fellow snake and are loyal to no-one but their own beating heart and true purpose. to work with a snake is to experience hard constant work. their industriousness and commitment to earth and source are the truest and highest exhalation of snake and the year to celebrate their comittment to gaia and all that she is— long live and slither the snake.
part II.
a mantra for the new year.
i are here for a reason, for many seasons and many delusions and disasters and detriment may strike, however i am here now in this incarnation and commit myself to pursuing truth as i know it and unveiling travesty as i see it and truth-slaying as much as i know it to be true in my heart and bones. i am not here to serve injustice or malice or hate or conflict. i am here to resolve and relate and rectify however done in a way that serves my soul and self first always.
being self-ish is truly the reason for being here on earth, learning the lesson of self serving your soul and higher purpose and not the orders and wishes of others, despite how they might try. being self centred is misconstrued in this modern era as if theres something strange about being self aware and self conscious and self serving.
the self service to your soul will radiate out a thousand, million times over. always choose to service/serve yourself and higher self and soul. be true to your word(s) and keep be-ing. may the new year be a rich and rewarding year of being-ness and beautiful journeying on earth and in the higher realms for you.
love, woo-tang.
