new autumn mixtape: let's blame it on the rain
issue 89 ♡ new autumn mixtape to accompany the crisp mornings & cool nights
so, should we blame it on the rain?
dear listeners,
while i was growing up in western australia at school we learnt that there were four seasons— the standard summer, autumn, winter and spring. however, nowadays my kids learn about the ancient indigenous seasons, where there are six in the calendar that follow closer in tune to nature and the subtler shifts in the wild west coast of oz.
we have entered djeran in the months of april to may which signifies the transition from the hot/warmer months to cooler weather and traditionally a time for preparing for the colder months ahead, including repairing shelters and gathering resources. with the mornings becoming crisp and the nights cooling, it felt ideal to drop the autumn/djeran mixtape now.
blame it on the rain by the lip-syncing milli vanilli is my pick of the mix. we’ve been singing it in the car on the way to school with choreographed moves my little guy made up with our hands depicting falling rain and shining star fingers. i also have a soft spot for sailing by christopher cross, that sets the mood for mid-autumn.
