how to begin creating a home
issue 26 ♡ you are the heart-full custodian & your home is your humble servant

dear doris. where do i even begin with creating a home? how do you make a home with soul? love homebody, southern hemisphere.
dear homebodies,
it’s my birth-day today or yesterday depending on where you reside on earth. i have turned 42 which you may know is — the answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe and everything, as calculated by an enormous supercomputer named deep thought over a period of 7.5 million years — according to the hitch hikers guide to the galaxy.
this weeks answer come in three parts — part I is answered my earth-bound stylist lens and part II is a channelled answer from the higher self doris. part III is a simple meditation that may help prepare or further align you with your home. kindly note that ‘god’ can be substituted for any vernacular or venerable you prefer and ‘heaven’ for the non-physical plane that resonates with you.
part I
this weeks question has been plucked from conversations and messages with humans who have asked me to help decorate or style their homes over the years — and one i always found terribly perplexing. inside my head i would be bewildered with the request thinking — hang on. i have to tap into the depths of your soul and really get to know you and your home, study the characters of both and the other inhabitants, know your life story and journey. dude, this would take years — so aloud i would simply answer, “um. i don’t really do that kind of thing”.
so in an attempt to do that kind of casa caper — what i have learned from the experience of creating home is — before you do anything at all, before you look at paint colours, before you even dare think about floor finishes or selecting tiles, even before you even look at Pinterest for inspiration or scroll socials for screenshots — is to sit.
sit inside your home and be with it. simply tune into your heart space and the heart of your home by being one with it. find a space or room or nook or cranny on the floor that you find delight or solace in and proceed to sit and be.
set intentions for yourself and your home together, working in symbiosis and in an ever evolving relationship with her. allow yourself and your home an opportunity to truly tune into what it is you desire and wish for your home and it’s inhabitants. write notes, draw and scribble anything down through these sittings. for a moment, relinquish lists of material form and specific colours and conjure up descriptives and phrases, feeling and movements a space may be filled with — be it love, friends, food or the sound of laughter.
take as much time as you need with this preliminary process and repeat it whenever you feel overwhelmed or unsure how to proceed through renovation, repair and your budding relationship with her.
part II
i am not here to tell you what to buy. i am not here to direct what you should do and i definitely am not here to preach what you should have in your home. this is a gentle guide to intuiting your home by thy knowing yourself. your journey of self discovery, depth and dipping into your soul state of being will lead to a marriage between you and your casita.
