dearest listeners,
we are tiptoeing into fall down under which translates as nights where you giddily pull up the covers and wake up to a crispy breeze which requires you throw on a jumper until morning tea time. within this transition, i have been curating a down under autumn mixtape featuring australian artists. as the seasons pass, i am growing in gratitude to this country and the melodies that raised me.
the first track breathe in now by george was released twenty two years ago in 2002 with their debut album polyserena. the word poly translates as many or much and serena as serenity or peace. the songwriter katie noonan reflects,
we certainly never made music for the purpose of commercial success. we made music for the purpose of wanting to be as honest, authentic and unique as possible. it was still sort of that post-grunge era. we were a bunch of hippies from brisbane. i didn’t realise this at the time – i was just being myself.
